This year, we brought a titanium wheelset to the Railway Challenge. We would like to thank Sheffield Titanium Alloy Research for providing us the billets of recycled titanium alloy which made these wheels possible.

We would also like to thank Ceratizit UK & IRE for providing us the tools with which to machine these wheels.

We came 2nd place in the Railway Challenge!

We won the Ride-on, Remote Data Recording and Auto-stop challenges. We also scored the highest possible points for Reliability, a challenge for which we were awarded joint winners alongside several other impressive teams.

We would also like to say congratulations to the winners of the competition, FH2Rail Aachen, and to all the other competitors for another top-tier event. Also thank you to the IMechE Railway Division, the volunteers and FSMR for organising and facilitating.

In the auto-stop challenge, our locomotive managed to pass a beacon and come to a stop within 45mm of a target location.

Here was our performance in the Traction Challenge

We managed to achieve a distance of 27 metres in the regenerative braking challenge. This distance was travelled using only the energy captured and stored during braking.

We took part in the auto-coupler challenge today!

Edit: Due to some comments, we thought we should clarify the challenge requirements. The auto-coupler challenge requires teams to design and build a device which automatically couples the locomotive to the carriage. No human physical interaction with the coupler itself is permitted. Indication from other persons of the coupling status to the driver are also not allowed.
