Happy 10th birthday to your hot water cylinder.

Nearly half of the electric hot water cylinders in New Zealand are more than 10 years old (EECA). That is a decade of heating water around the clock, and a lot of power bills.

Go and have a look at the sticker on yours. What year does it say? Oldest one in the comments wins bragging rights.

When it is time for a new one, a heat pump water heater does the same job with 60 to 75% less electricity than a standard electric cylinder.
