It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Hank Murney, founder of RX Plastics. Hank passed away on Monday after a long battle with illness, aged 78.

Hank’s contribution to our business and the wider industry is significant. In 1975, he and wife Kate began RX Plastics in a small tin shed in Ashburton, manufacturing bag ties with just the two of them as employees. Through hard work, reinvestment, innovation, and a deep passion for what they were building, they steadily grew the business into something much greater.

Over time, RX Plastics expanded well beyond its humble beginnings - into extrusion pipe, plant pots, tanks, PVC products and irrigation systems - becoming a recognised leader in rural water management.

By 2008, when the Murney family sold the business to Aliaxis, RX Plastics had grown to include sites in Tinwald and Horotiu and had established a strong reputation for expertise and reliability.

Hank was known not only for his entrepreneurial spirit, but also for his character - someone who worked hard, valued relationships, and enjoyed a good laugh. He built many lasting friendships across the business, and his legacy continues to be felt today.

Moving Day is nearly upon us once again 🐮

There’s a lot to think about as the day arrives, so get ahead of the game and check the condition of the stock water supply in the new paddocks now to make sure you can hit the ground running ✅

Winter’s a good time to keep an eye on your stock water. Cold snaps can freeze troughs faster than you think, and it doesn’t take long for water access to become an issue.

A quick check now and then can save a lot of hassle later – and keeps the cows happy and well hydrated 🐄
Because no one wants thirsty stock when winter really sets in.

Farming’s a big part of who we are in Aotearoa – and those working the land know better than anyone that it can come with real risks. Long days, tough conditions, and plenty going on at once.

This World Health and Safety Day, it’s a good reminder that looking after the farm also means looking after yourself and your people. A few simple checks can make a big difference:

✅ Take regular breaks to manage fatigue
✅ Keep machinery and gear well‑maintained
✅ Stay hydrated and watch for signs of heat or cold stress
✅ Spot hazards early and deal with them where you can

Because everyone deserves to get home safe at the end of the day.

We've made a few changes behind the scenes to optimise our South Island operations and improve long term safety, efficiency, and service continuity.

Central to which is opening a new distribution centre, focused on fittings, at 652 Halswell Junction Road in Hornby, Christchurch.

And our Tinwald, Ashburton site has been extended and now houses RX Plastics, Marley, and Dynex pipe and profile.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Customer Services or your Territory Manager. Cheers!
