Movement 130: Shears for Cutting Iron Plates
The jaws are opened by the weight of the long arm of the upper one, and closed by the rotation of the cam.
This simple yet effective mechanism is a brilliant example of how motion can be transferred and controlled through clever use of leverage and cams. Even today, many principles from these historical mechanisms find their place in modern machines.
