Furnace Urgent Troubleshooting Notice: Staying Warm This Weekend
A major cold snap is arriving this weekend, and if your gas furnace experiences a sudden failure under the heavy heating load, check these critical troubleshooting points before calling for an emergency repair.
🚨 Quick Troubleshooting Checks
• Check the Igniter: If you can see the igniter glowing red but no flame catches, your burners may be dirty or your gas valve may not be receiving power.
• Clean the Flame Sensor: A dirty flame sensor will shut the system down completely just seconds after lighting. Clean it gently with a piece of steel wool or a dollar bill.
• Inspect the Air Filter: A clogged filter restricts airflow, causing the system to overheat and trip the high-limit safety switch. Replace dirty filters immediately.
• Verify Safety Switches: Ensure the blower door panel is completely secure; an unengaged safety door switch will cut all power to the furnace.
• Reset the System: Perform a soft reset by shutting off the thermostat, flipping the furnace breaker off and on, and restarting the heating cycle.
