Project Complete: Minnesota Rural Electric Association Headquarters

Here are the professional photos of the new 12,143 SF headquarters for the Minnesota Rural Electric Association. This project truly reflects who their organization is from the ground up. Thanks to Ryan Siemers Photography for capturing the project so well.

This build started with the full demolition of the original structure and the construction of a brand-new facility. The result is a modern, purpose-built office that blends function with character.

Highlights include:

-Skylight & AV system integration
-Dedicated classroom space
-Custom architectural elements tailored to MREA's identity
-EV charging stations
-Power poles incorporated into the building's structure — a nod to MREA's mission
-Exterior finishes: EIFS, Nichiha Wall panels, and metal panels

-Full landscaping and parking lot

It's always rewarding to deliver a space that tells a client's story. Thank you to the MREA team for trusting us with this project, and to Kaeding Architecture for the thoughtful design collaboration.

Ceilings can be one of the most complex coordination challenges in commercial construction. Look at what's happening in this photo. What you're seeing isn't just drywall and some lights. This ceiling system represents weeks of planning and the precise coordination of multiple trades all working in the same plane of space:

1. Electricians running conduit and wiring for recessed cans, linear LED strips, and emergency systems.
2. Mechanical contractors routing HVAC ductwork and diffusers
3. Low-voltage teams installing speakers, fire alarms, and security devices
4. Drywall crews building the soffits, transitions, and layered ceiling planes

All of the glowing light lines had to be coordinated before a single stud was placed. The angles, the transitions from ceiling to wall, the way the black banding and red accent, none of that happens with the snap of a finger.

This is what pre-construction coordination looks like when it's done properly. Construction is so much more than meets the eye at completion.
