Where do we even start?

Today was a reminder that some of the best parts of this business have nothing to do with construction.

A phone call from Maryland led to a meeting in Opelousas about restoring a historic home that may become a place for art classes, community gatherings, and opportunities for local kids. The project found its way to us because someone had been following our work at BeauBassin Farm & Gardens and thought we'd be a good fit.

In Opelousas we met Kay, a local artist helping bring the vision to life. After our meeting, a conversation led us to NUNU’s in Arnaudville. Once there, we learned Kay regularly works and displays her art here. We also met the owner, who just so happened to have a project of her own in this historic building.

By the end of the day, it felt like every conversation connected back to another.

That's what we love about South Louisiana. The relationships. The people. The shared passion for preserving old places and creating spaces that serve their communities.

Couldn't leave without getting a picture with Kay and some of her artwork in the background.

Some days are just a good reminder that you never know where one conversation might lead.

We talk a lot about “Work That Matters.”

This is a great example of it. A community coming together to preserve something worth saving while creating something meaningful for future generations. Really cool to see what can happen when people invest in the places they call home.

Restore Grand Isle has officially purchased the historic Oleander Hotel, marking a major milestone in the island's ongoing recovery & revitalization following Hurricane Ida. After raising $400,000 in support, the nonprofit organization, in partnership with the Town of Grand Isle, plans to restore the landmark property into a visitor & cultural center that will support tourism, education, cultural programming, exhibits, & community gathering space for generations to come.

Built in 1929, the Oleander Hotel was included in LTHP's Louisiana's Most Endangered Places list in 2024 & was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2025, recognizing its architectural & cultural significance to Louisiana's coast & making it eligible for historic tax credits.

We're thrilled to see this beloved landmark moving toward a new chapter that honors Grand Isle's history while investing in its future.
