Last day at All Energy Australia, and there’s still time to step inside a CHP.

A 2G engine won’t fit on a 6x3m stand, so we brought one you can walk through instead. Grab a VR headset at stand UU113 and look around a 3D scan of a real 2G avus installation.

Remote mines don’t wait for the grid to reach them. The power has to be generated where the work happens.

2G gas engines produce electricity on-site, running on natural gas or LNG delivered to the mine. That gives remote operations a reliable alternative to diesel generation, with no grid connection required.

The heat from the engines doesn’t have to go to waste either. Depending on the site, it can be recovered for process heat, camp hot water, or cooling.

We’re currently delivering more than 40MW of 2G generation to Australian mining projects.

The engine doesn’t make electricity. This does.

The green unit on the right is the alternator. Inside a CHP unit, the engine burns gas to turn a shaft. The alternator sits on the end of that shaft and converts the spin into electricity the site can use. Without it, all the engine’s work would just turn into heat.

On a CHP unit, that heat gets used too. It’s captured from the engine’s exhaust and cooling circuits and sent wherever the site needs it, so the same gas pays off twice.

Earlier this week we showed the outside. Here’s what’s inside the container at Kia Ora Piggery.

The 2G Agenitor 404c is a four-cylinder turbocharged engine built to run on biogas. It turns gas from the farm’s covered effluent ponds into up to 160kW of electricity, and its heat goes to warming the pig sheds.

At Kia Ora Piggery, the pigs help heat their own sheds.

Effluent from the farm’s 24,000 pigs breaks down in covered ponds and produces biogas. That gas fuels a 160kW 2G Agenitor 404c, generating electricity for the site.

The engine’s heat is put to work too. It runs through a heat exchanger, and fans blow the warm air over the pigs in the cooler months. Warmer pigs spend less energy staying warm, so they eat less feed.

Waste in, power and heat out, all on the same farm in northern Victoria.

This 2G unit is on the test stand at 2G's factory in Germany. Next stop: an Australian site.

As 2G's exclusive authorised partner in Australia, EvoET is the local end of that chain. 2G builds and tests the unit. We take it from there with installation, commissioning and servicing for the life of the system, and one point of contact for the customer.

Rocker covers off, 500 hours into a brand new engine.

This is the replacement biogas engine at JBS Corowa, in for its first scheduled service. The engine before it ran for 60,000 hours before our technicians swapped it out earlier this year.

The first service on a new engine is the chance to check everything is bedding in the way it should. Get that right early, and the engine is set up for the long haul, running around the clock on gas from the site's covered pig manure lagoon.

Our biggest project yet. 32MW of LNG power for one remote mine.

Remote mines have long run on diesel. This system will power the whole mine on LNG, which means a more competitive cost of energy, a steadier fuel price, lower CO₂ emissions, and far less particulate matter and SOx on site.

The system will be built on German engineered 2G gas generation, supplied and supported by EvoET as 2G's exclusive Australian partner.

A huge effort from our team to get here, and plenty more to share once the equipment is on site.
