Energy security is not just about building more renewables. It’s about reducing our exposure to imported fuels and volatile global markets.

The UK still relies heavily on imported energy, and gas remains a major part of our power system. That means price shocks can still feed directly through to households and businesses.

Predictable tidal stream energy offers a powerful solution.

Unlike other renewables, tidal generation can be forecast years in advance, helping balance the grid, reduce curtailment costs, and strengthen the UK’s long-term energy resilience.

With projects like Morlais in North Wales, the UK has a real opportunity to turn its natural tidal advantage into a strategic energy-security asset and a new export industry.

But revenue contracts alone do not build projects. Closing the “first arrays” finance gap will be critical to unlocking deployment.

We’re proud to share that Mor Energy, part of QED Naval, has secured a major milestone in the latest Contracts for Difference allocation round.

The project has been awarded a 5.5MW tidal stream CfD contract in AR7a, a significant step forward for tidal stream deployment in the UK.

This achievement reflects the continued progress being made in marine renewables and reinforces the UK’s position as a global leader in tidal innovation. Congratulations to the team at QED Naval and Mor Energy, alongside the support of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the Welsh Government.

Digital Twins are no longer a future concept, they are essential for infrastructure investment today.

QED Naval has now acquired and deployed industry-leading software (MATLAB, Simulink and Simscape) to simulate, test and deploy Digital Twin control strategies across its tidal portfolio.

This allows engineers, customers and stakeholders to monitor performance, optimise energy yield and plan maintenance interventions, reducing technical risk and improving revenue certainty.

QED Naval Welcomes Indonesian Government Delegation

In November 2025, QED Naval had the pleasure of welcoming and meeting a delegation from the Indonesian government for an insightful session focused on tidal energy innovation and future collaboration opportunities.

Our COO, Keith Murray, delivered a comprehensive presentation on QED Naval’s tidal stream technologies, our Digital Twin programme, and the potential for predictable, clean marine energy to support Indonesia’s long‑term renewable energy goals.

QED Naval is advancing its Digital Twin capability as part of the EU-funded Offshore for Sure programme, turning real-world tidal data into predictive, investor-ready insights.

By integrating long-term operational data from live tidal projects with new simulation and control tools, we are building a Digital Twin focused on performance optimisation, predictive maintenance and reduced project risk.

This work strengthens confidence in tidal energy as a scalable, predictable part of the energy system and supports QED Naval’s next phase of commercial deployment.

🎄 Season’s Greetings from QED Naval 🎄

As we come to the close of the year, we’d like to thank our partners, investors, and supporters for being part of QED Naval’s journey in advancing predictable tidal energy.

2025 has been an exciting year of progress, from strengthening our project pipeline to continuing development of Subhub and our wider tidal platform ambitions. We look forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead.

Please note that QED Naval will be closed with limited access from 22nd December to 5th January 2026, as our team takes a well-earned break over the festive period.

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a successful, sustainable New Year. 🌊⚡

QED Naval is pleased to be working alongside Reinier Rijke and the team at Water2Energy, whose demonstrator in Vlissingen has successfully connected to the grid and is delivering reliable, predictable tidal power. This kind of real-world deployment is exactly what the sector needs to prove tidal energy’s role in a balanced renewable energy system.

As our CEO, Jeremy Smith, has highlighted, projects like this demonstrate how tidal energy can complement intermittent wind and solar by providing stable, forecastable generation. The performance achieved at Vlissingen reinforces the credibility of tidal power as a scalable, cost-effective solution for future infrastructure, including opportunities across storm surge barriers and other coastal assets.

Through Offshore for Sure, QED Naval and Tocardo BV are focused on turning long-term operational data into investor-ready, bankable tidal projects, supporting the transition to predictable, low-carbon energy across Europe and beyond.

🌊 Tidal energy, the UK’s next major opportunity

At QED Naval, we believe the UK stands at a pivotal moment. With rapidly evolving energy demands and a commitment to decarbonisation, tidal energy offers something uniquely powerful: predictable, low-carbon, and reliable generation from the sea.

Our latest article explores why it’s time to balance the energy mix by embracing tidal power. We dive into key advantages, long-term potential, and what makes the UK especially well-positioned to lead this shift.

🌊 Driving Europe’s Next Wave of Predictable Renewable Energy

Tocardo BV (a QED Naval subsidiary JV company) are proud to be advancing the EU-funded Offshore for Sure (O4S) project, a major programme that builds on six years of real-world turbine performance data from the Dutch Government backed Oosterschelde Tidal Power (OTP) project.

This is one of the most comprehensive operational datasets in the tidal energy sector, and it is now being transformed into engineering insight that strengthens the reliability, bankability, and commercial readiness of tidal stream technology.

Through O4S, our combined teams are:
🔹 Analysing long-term turbine performance, loads and durability
🔹 Using real operational evidence to inform next-gen platform and array design
🔹 Reducing technical and investment risk
🔹 Strengthening the case for scalable, predictable tidal energy in Europe

As Jeremy Smith, CEO of QED Naval, notes:
“This is unique sector data and learning, and it is of significant value in terms of both performance and reliability as we work with insurers, investors and finance partners, particularly for major projects such as our Morlais site in Wales.”

These outcomes demonstrate high TRL technology which is why QED Naval and Tocardo are investor ready, backed by proven data, validated technology, and a clear pathway to commercial deployment across the UK and Europe.
