The recent Ebola outbreak is a reminder of just how important diagnostic preparedness is. Because this outbreak involves the rarer Bundibugyo virus, laboratories may need to review their testing capabilities and ensure they're equipped to detect a broader range of filoviruses. Early, accurate diagnosis remains one of the most effective tools in supporting containment efforts.

Some people are simply meant to come back home, and Dr Carol-Ann van Staden is one of them.

As our Product Specialist for Molecular Research, Carol-Ann combines a PhD in Genetics with a passion for supporting researchers and laboratories across South Africa, and will be looking after the sales and support of our molecular research portfolio.

We're thrilled to have her back and can't wait to see the impact she'll make.

It’s International Action for Women’s Health Day, and here at Celtic, we’re watching a few key developments we wanted to share with you. Today serves as reminder that women’s healthcare is never static.

Research has already shown encouraging progress with studies linking the national HPV vaccination programme to reductions in high-risk HPV infections associated with cervical cancer. Read more here: https://www.bmj.com/content/391/bmj.r2479

Meet Reneé, our steady Operations Director who recently celebrated a very special birthday. She really is such a light in the Celtic family. From finance and freight logistics to keeping our day-to-day operations running seamlessly, Reneé is the calm, caring force that keeps the engine turning.

She sees the beautiful, fun side of life in everything and somehow even gets away with speaking Afrikaans to Dermot (who understands her… most of the time).

We adore you, Reneé. Thank you for bringing so much heart, laughter and warmth to the team.

Geek week!

A little weird at first that we’re celebrating the International Day of Light on Saturday, but not really, if you think about it. Real-time PCR (qPCR) — a core specialty for us at Celtic Molecular — relies entirely on optics, lasers, and fluorescence (light) to quantify DNA and RNA. Without harnessed photons and excited fluorophores, we’d be nothing. So here’s to Newton, Einstein, Lewis, and their genius crews, who ultimately made modern rapid testing possible.

This Medical Laboratory Week, we’re taking a moment to recognise the people who don’t always stand in the spotlight but whose work is absolutely vital. Thank you for the precision, the patience, and the quiet excellence you bring to every result.

We see you, we value you, and we’re here with you on the journey every step of the way.

We’re visiting labs, meeting brilliant minds, and introducing the PCR Biosystems range in the best way we know how... in person.

Megan Bello from PCR Biosystems connected with students at University of the Western Cape’s Department of Plant Biotechnology, sharing insights, answering questions, and of course… bringing Clara (our unofficial lab mascot) along for the ride.
